About Our Yucca Valley California Welcome Center

The California Travel and Tourism Commission started the California Welcome Center program a number of years ago to enhance the state's tourism industry.  To date, there are twenty Welcome Centers in the state, each serving the communities within a fifty mile radius of their respective locations.  The California Welcome Center in the Town of Yucca Valley is located on the main thoroughfare thru town and was established in 2002 to serve the entire Southern California desert region, including the Morongo Basin and the Coachella Valley.

Your Welcome Center was designed to reach known travelers who are often seeking information needed to plan their current activities or their next vacations. Among questions asked are those about restaurants, hotels and sightseeing opportunities while in the area.

Our CWC Staff is
Trained to Help

The Center attracts visitors on their way to and from Joshua Tree National Park, the Colorado River, Big Bear, Palm Springs and other Coachella Valley attractions.

Staff members greet each visitor with enthusiasm and are trained to answer questions about Southern California in general.  Folks from foreign countries, families and thrill-seeking rock climbers are among the many visitors to our Welcome Center.

Who Stops At Our Welcome Center

The Joshua Tree National Park hosts over 1.5 million visitors per year, with a great number of those people stopping at our California Welcome Center for directions and for information to help them plan their stay while here in the desert.

Folks attending conferences and seminars in Palm Springs and timeshare holders visit here to get a taste of the desert before returning home.  Foreign visitors making their way from their point of arrival at Los Angeles International Airport to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and points east stop by for final directions.  People coming from Northern California on their way to San Diego are given alternative scenic routes to that destination

Welcome Center representatives encourage tour guides to make our facility a stop on their way to other places.

How Do Visitors Find Us

Travelers find our California Welcome Center in a number of ways. Some are simply attracted by the beautiful building on the highway while others are directed by California Tourism maps.  Additionally, Cal Trans signs direct drivers to the Welcome Center from all major highways coming into the area.

Another way travelers can find Welcome Center locations is on the internet. The key words "California Tourism" automatically bring up the California Welcome Center web site.  Our Yucca Valley California Welcome Center, serving the Desert Region, has a link there that is visited regularly.
